Thrill of the Pursuit for Plants

The excitement of Plant Pursuit

As we mentally remove our winter coats and boots, we begin to think about spring and what we are planting in our gardens, how much, in which corner and in which colour. However, plants are costly and, with the recession, our pockets could be tighter than usual, so charging full price for plants at our local home improvement store could feel frivolous. Don’t be discouraged. The love of plants and finding them is like a treasure hunt, so see how cheap we can pay for excellent and beautiful plants.

Many universities have their horticultural shows which offer plants at great discounts. Additionally, botanical gardens provide a wide range of rare plants which can be bought for a lower cost. Botanical gardens in major cities are staffed by professionals who know what to plant, how and when to plant, and the effects.

Every city has staff who remove dead plants, recycle plants around flower beds or even plant multiple plants on highways. These containers fill downtown buildings or medium islands bordering city streets. Many of the city employees dump dead plants, but if you watch closely, the only thing that is dead is the surface of the plant; the roots are well preserved and healthy.

Water Resources also sell gardening seminars and discount plants. A fast phone call to your local water supply will let you know when they give seminars at which native plants or bulbs that are suitable for your local environment are demonstrated. These offices sometimes also deliver rain barrel and water conservation workshops. They usually have a large supply of plants to sell.

The prisons also sell plant fairs in certain localities at low prices. Prison as part of the community, prisoners, also re-educate dogs, deal with leather products, sew flags and some gardening. The plants they cultivate can be purchased for incredibly low prices.

Garden clubs are filled with experts who cultivate plants of every kind: orchids, ferns, rose bushes, bromeliads, native plants to mention few among many. When you watch their annual sale in your newspaper, the plants being sold are cultivated by professionals and are both highly safe and inexpensive. Many clubs have plant exchanges where you can exchange a cut from one of your plants and go for another. It enhances your garden’s variety at a very acceptable cost
